The Town of Ucluelet is perched on the waters edge of an incredibly beautiful and protected inlet on the North west corner of Barkley Sound, West Coast Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. Ucluelet is surrounded by a temperate rain forest on one side and spectacular ocean cliffs on the other. Ucluelet, a word used by the Nuu-Chah-Nulth ( local indigenous people ) meaning “safe harbor” has a population of approximately 2000 residents. Long beach or Pacific Rim National Park along with the town of Tofino are just a short distance north from Ucluelet.
Driving to Ucluelet is one of the most scenic drives in British Columbia and is truly what they meant when they said getting there is half the fun.
Coming from anywhere other then Vancouver island means you will need to take a ferry.
You have the option of traveling to Victoria or Nanaimo by ferry then on to Ucluelet.
Nanaimo is best if coming from Vancouver area or the interior of BC.
You can use either the Horseshoe Bay or Tsawwassen terminal to get to Nanaimo.
Victoria is best if coming from Port Angeles Washington, USA.
Traveling north from Victoria or Duke Point ferry:
Follow highway 1 north to the welcome to Nanaimo sign. Do not exit for downtown Nanaimo
Take Highway 19 overpass North towards Qualicum Beach, just before Qualicum take Exit 60 onto Highway 4 (Pacific Rim Highway) to Port Alberni. You will pass Cathedral Grove on this scenic mountain road
Go straight through Port Alberni, turning right at the T-junction to Tofino/Ucluelet.
The highway follows Sproat Lake and Kennedy River through snow capped mountains.
Allow 1 ˝ hours between Port Alberni and the T-Junction by the Pacific Rim Visitors Centre.
Turn left to Ucluelet (5 minutes).
From Departure Bay ferry: (Nanaimo)
Follow traffic up the hill to the North Island Highway. Turn right through Nanaimo, to Highway 19. Then follow above directions.
Driving time from Nanaimo to Ucluelet is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Victoria to Ucluelet 4 hours.
Vancouver to Ucluelet approx. 6 hours (ferry included).

Once you get to the West Coast T-intersection where you either turn right to Tofino or Left to Ucluelet, there will be a large Tourist information center on your right, at this point you make a left turn.
Turn left at the junction off Hi-way 4 and head to Ucluelet, at approx 2 kms, turn left on to Port Albion Rd, Follow Port Albion Rd for 6 kms until you enter a residential area immediately across the harbor from Ucluelet.

The cabin has a burl sign at the end of its driveway, that says Albion Charters.

There are several options when it comes to flying to Ucluelet. The most economic form of flying is by wheeled aircraft into Long Beach Airport (Tofino). The airport is approximately 15 minutes from Ucluelet, and you have the option of taking a shuttle bus or Murray will pick you up at the airport.
